That’s why, as part of Storm Creek’s Embrace the Cause Initiative, we partnered with Save the Boundary Waters (STBW) to support its efforts to protect the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area.
The Boundary Waters is the most visited wilderness area in the country, containing 1.1 million acres of pristine water and untouched woodlands. Combined with the Superior National Forest, it contains 20% of all the fresh water in the entire National Forest System.
Trouble is, sulfide-ore copper mining just outside the Boundary Waters poses an imminent threat. Pollution from proposed mines, if built, will flow directly into the heart of the Boundary Waters. A single mine will contaminate the wilderness for at least 500 years.
It’s more than one mine being proposed, for the Boundary Waters it’s a first step towards an industrial corridor of mines, mills, roads, and rail lines along the edge.
